Merry Christmas

Christmas was very quiet this year. The big brothers all went to Hawaii so it as only our little family sharing the joys of Christ's Birth. I anticipate Christmas more and more every year now because of the children. It is just so funny to watch them make plans for Santa's arrival and can't wait to get out of bed on Christmas morning. Last year I complicated the whole Santa-Baby Jesus concepts, trying to fit in my my Hungarian traditions into the holiday. This year we just took it as it came. Mikulas (Santa) was late again (shame on me), just like last year ... I guess he had a long way to come on December 6, all the way from Hungary. And then, surprise-surprise, he came again on Christmas Eve and made a mess of our house. The rain deers scattered half chewed carrots all over the living room and Santa did not drink his milk again.
These are some of the joyous captions I managed to make on that morning.

Lutza trying on her new cow-girl boots .... fancy needlework and a shiny toe.

Vidor finally finding something that had his name on ... a joy on its own.

Guzie and his new tow-truck

I didn't get to take a picture of all three of them sitting together and actually looking.

3-2-1 Blast off Birthday Party

Turning three is a big deal ... at that matter turning a year - any year - at our house is a big deal. Turning 3 was a big deal, however for Bendeguz because he finally understood that he is having a birthday and he truly was the center of all the festivities.
Since he has been 'traveling' to space as long as he can talk, we thought it would be well suited to have a birthday party honoring his passion. We celebrated his special day by a space themed party filled with lots of fun.

He got this adorable shirt just a few weeks before his third birthday: it had a space ship tie on it ... perfectly appropriate for the occasion ... as it is clearly visible from this prideful and 'totally-cool' look he had when we took his personal picture. The space ship pinata (a last minute find) made a perfect decoration along with his banners.

All of his little guests had to pass the astronaut training test ... games like walking in a straight line after being spun on a swivel chair, knocking out aliens with balls, and jumping high on a mattress. His friends were all rewarded with official metals for his great accomplishments.

My favorite part of birthdays is to capture that face, that joy, that happiness, that excitement, that love in my children's eyes when all their friends circle around them to sing 'Happy Birthday'. I love cool cakes, and this happy moment needs to have that specialness, a one of a kind sweet creation that they will see only once in their lives. Bendeguz's spaceship cake had rich chocolate filling with raspberry jam - just as he requested.
Now, that is the face I want to catch!!! It is just all about him for a few minutes. .... I might have to correct that: it is all about him a lot since he is our 'baby' but this time all eyes were on him.
We adore this little boy so much I don't think we have words to express it. He is the funniest, silliest little man, so sharp and has such a great sense of humor. He is all boy - head to toe - and he is all lover from inside out. You think you need hugs and love ... he is the one to turn to. He has those two cute dimples above his simile that are the signs of true happiness. I have loved seeing those dimples the past three years ... may many more of those years come!!!

An Incredible Evening

Oh, what a cool Halloween we had! We ran with the 'Incredibles' idea ... something that was decided last year this time and turned out absolutely fantastic. After digging around in everyone's drawers and finding snappy tights and red t-shirts that I customized with "Incredibles" symbols and black masks, we turned into superheroes superfast. The best part is that J was super excited about it and really loved his outfit. We got lots of complements on him in tights ;o)

Those three little children ran like lightening from house to house ... Guzie's little black high tops were just a blur in the dark.

Yupp, I am proud to say that I am married to Mr. Incredible and for sure he lives up to his name.

S is for School

It took me one whole month to write about going back to school (do I need to say why ... that my house is a mess, I usually don't know what is for dinner before 4.30 pm and haven't had a chance to sit by by computer?) ... We are all back to school. Lutza is in Kindergarten, Vidor is in Pre-Kindergarten and Bendeguz is stirring it up in his toddler/preschool class. Oh, and I am teaching in the a morning Preschool class.

Lutza, my darling, was more than ready to get busy. She was quite apprehensive before September, stressing it too much that she does not like math and 'do I really need to do so much homework?' All those worries are gone now. She is loving school and learning so much cool stuff, and of course finding that math is actually pretty fun. She has also started ballet and tap dance. I love how she gets to nurture her mind and passions, that she can be so expressive in variety of ways. I can already see her on the stage .... 15 years from now as a famous dancer :o)

It was refreshing to do school clothes shopping for the year. She declared it ahead that she will not wear jeans because they are just 'super uncomfortable'. So we went right pass the pants and got a whole bunch of cute skirts and tops. First time ever, she is still happy with every single one of them, and I still feel like my little girl is truly a little girl.

All of us going to the same school have huge advantages. I don't only get to sneak kisses and hugs to my children many times during the moring, but they can do the same for each other. Lutza, as a responsible big sister, promised me to keep an eye on her brothers .... it is so sweet to see them meet in the hallways every once in a while.

So real work kicked in for my girl. She loves her new teachers ... she has explicit reasons what makes each of them special. As I have been hearing back, the silly-factor went up for Lutza this year (lots of giggling with friends) but she also knows her responsibilities well and makes me proud every day.

As for Vidor, school can still be hard. He complains every morning that Brumy (his bear) is too tried and he wants to stay home. As a side note, Brumy is one of the most educated bears who ever walked on earth (I am surprised I am not getting tuition charges for him). He has attended school every day last year without fail .... he can usually be found under Vidor's arm or under his hind (that's where he has to sit while Vidor is doing serious work so the bear sounds don't disrupt the class).

And my youngest son ... he still wishes he could be alongside the pool ... Guzie has good and not so good days and while he complains a lot, he ends up having lots of fun each morning. Being a 'veteran' school boy, he comforted many of his classmates in the beginning of the school year. Things turned however last week ... he is now the one who gets the back rubs from friends to make him feel better after I need to say goodbye.

And as for me ... my heart is full of joy and has a little bit of sadness too. I love my children so much and I want every little trouble or worry to be comforted by me. I wake up every morning reminding myself that they are only this big today so I try to make every day the 'best day every'! In exchange they tell me that 'don't worry mommy, I stay little for you just a little bit longer and even if I get bigger, I will always come for dinner to your house and let you kiss me"! Reassuring, isn't it? I am one blessed woman!

'Aarrghh' Birthday

The most anticipated day in August has came: our big boy Vidor turned four. We celebrated his birthday with a pirate party, lots of friends, food and some real treasure hunt.

Four years ago he was just a little 'grasshopper' we brought home from the hospital (Lutza was the squirrel, and Guzie the polliwog at birth). He quickly grew into a strong fine boy ... sometimes we think too quickly. He is smart as a whip, strong like a bull and loves like a little kitten. He makes our lives and family full by his funniness and endless energy.

Augusztus leg varva vartabb napja eljott: nagy fiunk Vidor negy eves lett. Kaloz partyval, sok barattal, jo falattal es igazi kincsvadaszattal unnepeltunk.

Teljesse teszi a csaladunkat a jokedvevel, humoraval es vegtelen energiajaval.

To get the pirate spirit going, we decorated a bit. Got out all the cool stuff from Daddy's top shelf and made a banner.

Leszedtuk Daddy felso polcarol a sok kaloz kincset.

We cooked a super summer meal. Since I haven't had a single party this summer (which I truly have no idea how it happened) I covered a long table with goodies. He asked for ribs and bread ... and I threw in some other stuff to make it a complete meal.

The night before I drew some treasure maps and buried some goodies for the children all around the house. It was a real treasure hunt ....

Running around in a pack, looking for the X

New accessories turned his friends all into little pirate boys and girls.

Az uj kiegeszitok kaloz fiuva es lannya varazsoltak a baratokat.

And, a birthday would not be complete without a cake...

Surrounded by friends ... he was at the spotlight and shined like a little star. There are no words that can express how much we love this boy!!!

How do I know I am loved

Having three children will throw a whirlwind of emotions on me daily but of course my most favorite one is how much I love them and how much I am loved. Our not so favorite emotions will not be spelled out here ... they usually come out of my children when I try to feed them something terrible (that actually turns out to be worthy of seconds) or want to put them to bed in spite of their constant whining 'I am nooooooot tireeed yet ... but I can't walk. Can you carrrrry me?' Or, the most common one, trying to convince them about weather and occasion appropriate dressing (hint, this one happens every morning).

Oh, but sweet love. They let me know daily how much they love me and their Daddy.
Guzie, my darling little boy though, is especially expressive. Since he goes to the same school where I teach, I have a chance to sneak kisses on his neck many times a day. He always turns around and says: 'oh, Mommy, I missed you sooo much'. Do I think he loves me, oh yesss! But this is the same little boy who will tell me: 'you sent me to the bathroom ... now I am not taking you to space AND I am not giving you any jellybeans'! Oh yes, he already knows how to work the system.

How do I know I am loved? .... from the actions and words of my children ...

"That's a nice dress, Mommy!" (Guzie and Vidor)
"Where did you get those earrings?" (Lutza)
"You can come to space with me" (Guzie)
"I will kiss your boo-boo to make you feel better" (Lutza, Vidor and Guzie)
"I think you need some rest, you can have my bed!" (Lutza)
"You are the best mommy I can every wish for" (Lutza)
"This is the best dinner ever!" (Vidor)
"Thank you for not being angry at me that I made a huge mess" (Vidor)
"Can I sleep in you bed?" (Guzie)

I have been planning to go back to school and just last weekend I was guided to change my mind. How could I want to spend any time away from my bebes if I don't have to .... they are this big only today!!

Mondays can't get more fun

J has been working on a small machine for a few days and every night he comes home saying ... 'I wish I could take the kids with me and let them sit on my lap to try it out'. So this moring we hopped in the van and took a drive out to the country ... and I mean to the middle of nowhere to the construction site he is working at. The children knew why we were going and could hardly wait for Daddy to take care of all his responsibilites before they could get to work.

BUT ... out of the three who will get to go first? I told them they could go in the order they arrived to this world ... Lutza thought it would be nice if the boys let 'ladies go first' - either way she was the lucky one who got to have some serious fun first.

The obligatory cheese (by the way she is working on it lately to not to have it too cheesy - this one is pretty natural ;o)

A kotelezo 'cheese' (egyebkent igyekezik mostanaban nem tul sajtosra csinalni - ez eleg termeszetes mosoly lett ;o)

Thumbs up for that big rock she got to dig up.

Buszkeseg ... nem semmi kovet asott ki Lutza.

Vidor in his element... He can play with the toy ones at the park forever so he got right on Daddy's lap and knew exactly what to do - he could have stayed on this machine all day.

Vidor teljesen beleelte magat.

They dug a trench for a water drainage pipe along side the new addition to a house.

Oh, my little Guzie ... today he was not fond of being the last born - but finally it was his turn. I love seeing his face doing the real thing. He was pretty good with those controls.

Needless to say it was hard to peel them off that machine.

Mondanom sem kell, eleg nehez volt hazamenni.

Best day ever .... every day

We went camping again and well, we had 'the best days ever' again. For our first camping trip we went to Disneyland. And now if we mention to word camping, of course the children think we are going there again. On our first trip J and the children would sit down every night and discuss the plans for next day, check out the map and the route we would take and tell stories about their favorite part of the day. Vidor, without fail, every day concluded the day as 'this was the best day ever'. Since than this became our motto, our goal to make every day the best day ever. And what could be any better than ....

Nehany hetvegevel ezelott megint satorozni mentunk es megint a 'vilag legjobb napjat' toltottuk egyutt. Az elso utunkon Jeff minden este leult a gyerekekkel es megbeszeltek a terveket a kovetkezo napra, tanulmanyoztak a terkepet, es elmeseltek egymasnak a nap legelmenytelibb esemenyeit.

... crawling in the warm sand. (Kalaloch, WA)
... maszni a meleg homokban.

... saying cheese in a cheesy way.
... azt mondani hogy 'cheese' nagyon sajtosan.

... watching a beautiful sunset.
... nezni a gyonyoru naplementet.

... being the first ones on the beach in the morning.
... megelozni reggel mindenkit az oceanparton.

... finding cool stuff (even if it stinks like crazy).
... talani super kincseket (megha borzaszto budos is).

... climbing really old trees barefoot.
... megmaszni nagyon oreg fakat mezitlab.

... exploring the coastline with the brothers and sis.
... felfedezo utra menni a tesokkal.

... learning how to make a good campfire.
... megtanulni tuzetrakni.

... eating dinner on a riverbank.
... folyoparton vacsorazni.

... being amazed by the beautiful work of God.
... elamulni Isten csodalatos munkajatol.

My selfless Angel

So the day came .... Lutza finally got her first haircut. It was a sad and joyous day, sad for me and joyous for her. I have been a mommy now for 5 years and I still can't believe sometimes how much tiny human beings can teach me about so many aspects of life.

Hat eljott a nap ...

Lutza has never had a haircut before and her bouncy beautiful locks have been part of her image. That is the only way I knew her, with her messy locks, long ponytail, or her pretty breads. About a year ago she was old enough to understand that one day we will cut it and that she can actually help others by giving her hair to them. It was a conscious and firm decision she made about donating her hair. We agreed to grow it a little while longer but requests regularly came whether 'it was time yet'. Now don't misunderstand me, I wanted to give her hair away, I wanted her to learn the importance of giving up something that is precious to us to help others. BUT, I did not want my little Lutza to change. Instead of honoring her regular requests, I tried to convince her that she should wait just a little bit longer.

Azon a napon tudatos es komoly elhatarozast hozott.

Last Thursday I realized that the day came. As I lined up all the boys of the house for haircuts, Lutza stood in line as usual. Before, I would just hold on the clippers to her head and pretend to cut her hair but this time she meant it. "I am ready to cut my hair and give it away". I looked at my dear husband, he nodded his head - and as like a knife was turned in my heart - I told her to take a seat. She was ecstatic and over-the-clouds-happy. We measured and decided 'go big or go home', we will go for as much as we can... 13 inches of her beautiful hair went to Locks of Love to help other children and the best part is that she truly understood the meaning of her act. Needless to say, my heart is overjoyed with love and gratitude for my selfless child and her generosity.

Mult csutortokon azonban rajottem, hogy eljott a nap. Ahogy szepen sorba allitottam a haz fiait, Lutza is sorba allt mint mindig. Azelott csak jatszasibol a fejehez tartottam a hajvagot, mintha neki is vagnam a hajat, de most tenyleg komolyan gondolta "Keszen allok hogy levagjuk a hajamat". Raneztem kedves ferjemre, Daddy bolintott - es mintha egy kest csavartak voltna a szivembe - megkertem hogy csucsuljon le. Alig fert a borebe, szinte a felhok felett ropkodott a boldogsagtol.

Lutza is just a sassy and just as Lutza as she was, she did not change a bit. If anything, she is more like a mature young lady. She is proud and excited to show others her new cut and well .... absolutely enjoys the shorter morning routines. As for me, I cried (if you know me a bit you know I can cry if people just look at me cross eyed). I cried a few times from the joy and pleasure to welcome the short haired Lutza and I am deeply thankful that she teaches me and reminds me to step forward and embrace change. Imagine what a mess I am going to be when she goes off to college...

Vidor the Conquerer

I am so proud of this boy ... more than words can express. In the past few weeks he has grown so much on so many ways. Vidor is the most loving and kindest person who loves people but also appreciates that special world where he can be alone with is imagination. He builds the most amazing things out of the oddest things he finds around the house but he has hard time trying out new things - even if they look fun. He wants to be a big boy - and he wants that really bad. And of course that means taking chances ... We have taken an amazing camping trip just recently and those 10 days changed our boy's life forever - he took a lot of chances.

He would never jump off of high things before ... something that he just did not do out of principle ... it had nothing to do with trust. But on the tail end of our trip he climbed this monument and without thinking for even an instant, he flew right into his Daddy's arms.

He is more a big brother than ever. Even though he is younger than Lutza, he is a BOY and he knows that comes with responsibilities. Taking care of both of his siblings just warms my heart ... He is in the middle after all, middle children are pretty cool (just ask me ;o)

Ahogy gondoskodik a testvereirol elolvasztja a szivem ...

For a person who doesn't even get on the swing, Disneyland can be an overwhelming place. My goodness, it overwhelmed me! But where is my Vidor? Riding on the Pirates of the Carribian and LOVING IT with that joyful smile on his face 'can we do it again' (especially the fast slide part that he just thought rocked).

Valakinek, aki meg hintazni sem szeret, Disneyland eleg rettenetesnek tunhet. Oh, mindenhato, meg nekem is rettenetesnek tunt. De hol van az en Vidorom? A Pirates of the Carribian hajoban es IMADJA MINDEN PILLANATAT azzal a fulig ero mosollyal az arcan 'mehetunk megy egyszer' (foleg a gyors csuszda resze, szerite az a vilagon a legjobb volt).

And that Waterbug ... that is my boy who would dive into my arms and into neck deep water after he discovered that playing in the water is actually pretty fun.

His life was changed after our trip... We got home and the first thing he wanted to do is try to ride his bike. This bike has been waiting and sitting in the garage for 'when he is ready' and finally he was ready. He got on it, got a 'mighty push' from Momma and off he went. He is actually riding standing up now, hopping curbs, going way too fast and scaring me to death.

Most mar allva tekeri, utszeleket ugral vele, tul gyorsan megy es halalra ilyeszt.

Wish upon a star ... Kivanj egy csillagtol

This is a short version of our amazing camping trip to Disneyland. Unfortunately the full screen version is not as crisp as my original .... but I think the joy still comes through ;o)

Magyarul, kerlek! ~ In Hungarian, Pleeese!

Oh, so I have a blog ... I kinda all forgot about it. And you may ask why? Well, just because I can. Life has been just so busy and beautiful that we are taking it all in ... and the truth to be told, I have hard time sitting in one place for a long time lately ... that means next to my computer as well. But a lot of things happened in the past two months and I must put them away in a safe place before I forget about them.

First and foremost, I have decided - which should not to be confused with a promise - that I will write this blog from now in two languages. I have been asked and 'scolded' by family many times that I am not being fair to them by writing only in English. BUT it took a recent comment from one of my sweet high school classmate to get the final kick in the hind ~ thanks Ida. So here I go, in Hungarian Please.

Ugyhogy itt jovok, magyarul ;o)

What makes a girl

I think when God was giving out girlieness, our sweet Lutza must have stood in line over and over ... and totally skipped the how-to-keep-your-dresser-organized line. A few days before her birthday I asked her 'so what makes a girl a girl?'.

'Well, its easy to be a girl, you just need high fashion, lots of jewelry (she has a unique way of saying this word) and some collection, which is make-up in her view - limited to chap-stick and the pale pink eye shadow that she lost the first day after she got it). So I am not sure how I am doing at the high fashion department as a mother but I have a belief that little girls should be little girls as long as we can keep them little. I know better now not to butt in when it comes to getting dressed in the morning. She is usually happier with her own choices (that are really my choices lined up in her closet - but shhhh hopefully she will not find that out for a few more years ;o) . So while I have the illusion of slight control over what she wears, there is no remedy for how she walks in high heels or turns around and poses for a picture. I am not kidding ... I wish I could walk that gracefully in heels as my darling Lutza at age 5 ... that will never happen ... even if I practiced every day.

Being five can be both the most wonderful and most dramatic thing in life. While some days Lutza is cheerful and happy about everything, on other days the world can end in a matter of minutes. It's like being 5 going on 15. But there is nothing hugs and kisses and cuddling won't fix - as long as they are not the lesser amount compared to the brothers (it is amazing she can even pay attention to the number of kisses and hugs - when I can't remember what I had for breakfast).

So this is Lutza at age 5:
  • Favorite color: changes with the fashion
  • Favorite food: Anything with sugar and salami (that's the Hungarian in her; mean the salami part)
  • Favorite TV show: Miss Spider's Sunnypatch Friends
  • Favorite activity: Coloring and drawing (we are getting hints through her drawings that we should go to Disney Land)
  • Favorite Character: Rapunzel (could you guess from the pictures?)
  • Most often used big girl words: 'apparently' and 'alsoly' (she came up with this one)

She absolutely does not like spinach, picking up her clothes, wearing socks, sharing her dessert, not having her ponytail tight enough, or somebody taking her red chair at TV time.

For her birthday we threw a Tangled tea party - Tangled was the theme for her and the tea was the theme for me. Note to self: don't ask more than once your 'high-fashion' girl what kind of cake she would like to have ... it will change every day.

These treats and the new Rapunzel dress came around on her actual birthday - paired with a perfect crown she had just received from our kind neighbors (they know her too well).

On the morning of her birthday party she posed with her cake that I just finished. After much planning and changing of her mind we ended up with a pretty cake with a touch of Rapunzel (a big downsizing from the wedding scene with the tower and all she wanted originally).

Surrounded by friends ... oh, how I love that happy smile on her face. When everybody sings only for her ... its like time stops!!

Being five ... pretty cool!!

Some of her new goodies so she can be high-fashion.

Posing with her teachers and role models. I have just recently had to process a request for a name change from Lutza to Alysha - so when I say that these ladies are influential, I really mean it.

I fell in love with this little girl the first time I got to hold her ... she is so much more than I every thought God can wrap into a person. So much love for you Darling Lutza!
